Architektonisches Denken

Das Arbeiten mit und Reagieren auf Architektur ist ein Leitmotiv im Werk von Markus Draper (geb. 1969 in Görlitz, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin). Geöffnete, destabilisierte und verletzte Wände stellen eine verstörende Verbindung zu den unsicheren Außengrenzen des Körpers und der Psyche her. Das Kunst- und Bauvorhaben, das Draper im Auftrag des Kantons Bern für einen Institutsneubau der Universität Bern realisierte, stellt feste Begrenzungen ebenfalls in Frage. Ein ca. 30 qm großer, in die Sichtbetonwand der Mensa eingelassener Spiegel wirft dem Betrachter statt des eigenen Bildes das des Gebäudes sowie das einfallende Tageslicht zurück, da er sich nach oben in die Wand hinein neigt. So wird ein paralleler Raum eröffnet, der als das hinter dem Spiegel Liegende, Unbewusste verstanden werden kann. Der große Einfluss, den die psychologische Betrachtung von Architektur seit langem auf Drapers künstlerische Arbeitsweise hat, wird durch den Einbezug früherer Arbeiten nachvollziehbar. Mit einem Beitrag von Martin Germann und einem Gespräch zwischen Beatriz Colomina, Johannes Kuehn und Markus Draper.
