Hardcover with dj. Etat : Sehr gut. 219 S., mostly colored fotos, 30 cm, Sehr guter Zustand / very good condition. With dedication to Joschka Fischer. The greatest event of the latter half of the 20th Century may have been the end of the Cold War. I personally witnessed many of the important events, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, the 1989 Coup dEtat in Romania, the East European revolution in Hungary and Poland, the unification of East and West Germany, and the tumult in Russia and the former satellite States of the Soviet Union from the eve of the collapse to the period thereafter. I have also occasionally visited Berlin over the past ten years and have seen it changing. This book follows the process and results of the collapse of the Cold War System in Germany, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. After all, 1989, when the Wall suddenly crumbled, was an opening to the 2Ist Century. The end of the Cold War was brought about by the dissolution of the Communist bloc, and this heightened expectations for world peace and prosperity. In reality, however, the world has become more chaotic due to ethnic strife, the problem of disposing of an enormous number of nuclear weapons, and economic crises. Will the Situation brought about by the end of the Cold War continue unchanged long into the 2 Ist Century ? On the other hand, the fall of the Wall has also sparked a chain-reaction of European unification. Europe has introduced a single currency the euro and is advancing construction of Great Europe, fifteen centuries after the Roman Empire. The Japanese and English versions of this book contain a large photographic section. They cover democratic revolutions and riots, ethnic disputes, refugees, nuclear bases, the site of an accidental nuclear explosion, central European topics such as the rebirth of Berlin, Russia, the Baltic States, as well as Georgia and central Asia. I hope that you will be able to get a sense of the future through the interplay of the text and the photographs. ISBN 9784582217223 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 2500.
