Biographie de l'auteur

Emanuel Lasker was born on December 24, 1868 in what is now Poland but was then part of Germany. He won the world chess Championship by beating Steinitz in a match in 1894. He confirmed his title by beating Steinitz even more convincingly in their re-match in 1896–97. He was the most dominant ever of world champions. He lost the world title to Capablanca in a match played in March–April 1921 in Havana Cuba. After blundering badly, Lasker resigned the match, saying he could not play because of the heat. He then finished ahead of Capablanca in subsequent tournaments. Lasker wrote several books on mathematics and philosophy. He was a frend of Albert Einstein and they spent many hours together discussing their theories. Lasker died in New York on January 11, 1941.
