Synopsis
Police cars are a common sight in our society, signaling the important role of the police. They are also a source of great delight for children.
The first police car in the United States was an electric wagon used by the Akron Police Department in Ohio in 1899. The vehicle was built by city mechanical engineer Frank Loomis; it could reach speeds of 16 mph (26 km/h) and travel 30 miles (48 km) before needing to be recharged.
Law enforcement vehicles provide the police with greater mobility. Some can reach speeds of 150 mph (nearly 250 km/h). Only the fastest supercars could outperform these highway patrol vehicles!
