Synopsis

This book chronicles the lives and miracles of the wives of Mexican rulers. Here they let us in on their personal customs and ways of life, mentioning what they were obligated to do and what they were allowed to think and do. This is an innovative and thoughtful work that articulates various stories from women's perspectives: family, private life, mentalities, and material culture. At the same time, the book analyzes the historical context and is an entertaining tour of Mexico's past and culture.
