Synopsis

The objective of this book is simply to express by means of some designs, the majority of which were not built, that architecture and enthusiasm for it should not be lost in spite of the failure of not seeing one's ideas built, like children that could not be born and grown and remain only as a desire. An architecture student always has the hope that his or her designs will be materialized and will see the light. However, more than a few times this will be denied to him or her and he or she should learn not to be discouraged, a lesson that only life teaches. The path of the architect is uphill and full of obstacles. Every project has a private or public client who is not always the ideal one, or the one that at least we would like to have, almost never, I would say. He or she simply is as he or she is, and it is to his or her needs that one must respond. It is also true that one needs to know for whom he or she is working. On the other hand, the lots and the programs always enclose an interesting enigma. Builders do not always face or experience the implementation of a project with the same intensity and emotion as its designer. For them, our project is almost always one more job that they have to start, finish, and charge. If it comes out well, fine, and if not, it does not matter. In any case, the architect should not stop transmitting his or her passion for what he or she designed, in order for it to be built that way. The designer should learn to walk in the solitude of misunderstanding, of disagreement, of discouragement, and why not, even of disdain because it is the result of being obsessive or a perfectionist at the moment of materializing what he or she designed slowly and with poetic restlessness.
