It is being developed by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) CyberSpace Laboratories and released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). Version 2 of the filesystem, known as NILFS2, is included in Linux kernel 2.6.30. A separate, BSD licensed implementation, currently with read-only support, is included in NetBSD.
