Synopsis

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. A sensor node, also known as a 'mote' (chiefly in North America), is a node in a wireless sensor network that is capable of performing some processing, gathering sensory information and communicating with other connected nodes in the network. The typical architecture of the sensor node is shown in the figure to the right.Although wireless sensor nodes have existed for decades for applications as diverse as earthquake measurements to warfare, the modern development of small sensor nodes dates back to 1998 in the Smartdust project and the NASA Sensor Webs Project .
