Synopsis

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Patterns of Sexual Behavior, published in 1951, is a work of scientific literature co-authored by Clellan S. Ford and Frank A. Beach. The book integrates information about human sexual behavior from 191 different cultures, and includes detailed comparisons across animal species, with particular emphasis on primates. Patterns of Sexual Behavior, which has been called a classic" of its field, provided the intellectual foundation for the later research of Masters and Johnson. Despite being comprehensive for its time, Patterns of Sexual Behavior nevertheless contained a number of self-imposed limitations. Ford and Beach limited their definition of sexual behavior to "behavior involving stimulation and excitation of the sexual organs," and made no attempt to explore sexual symbolism."
