Synopsis

Terror attacks on a large scale with associated huge economic, financial and human losses have continued in an increasing number of countries and lands, developing and developed, since the September 2001 terror attacks on the World Trade Centre and Pentagon in the United States of America. So, terrorism continues to challenge global peace and security. In the last two decades, Africa has wrestled with domestic terrorism as well as an increasing number of transnational terrorist groups using Africa as a theatre to carry out attacks on both domestic and international targets and to develop and maintain their operations. Kenya and Nigeria are especially vulnerable to internal and external security threats because of their location in the greater Horn of Africa’s sub-region and West Africa respectively. This book examines how violent religious extremism is managed in Kenya and Nigeria.

V. A. Isumonah is Professor and Head of Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.N. Umukoro is Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Political Science, Edo University, Nigeria.J.M. Maweu holds a PhD in the Political Economy of the Mass Media from Rhodes University and teaches at the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
