Brasileosaurus (meaning "Brazil lizard") is the name of a sparse collection of fossils that are nomen vanum-- that is, they will probably never be identified. They are believed to be the fossils of a non-dinosaurian archosaur. The type species is B. pachecoi, described by prolific German paleontologist Friedrich von Huene in 1931.Brasileosaurus is not to be confused with the mesosaur Brazilosaurus.In biological nomenclature, a type species is both a concept and a practical system which is used in the classification and nomenclature (naming) of animals and plants. The value of a "type species" lies in the fact that it makes clear what is meant by a particular genus name. A type species is the species to which the name of a genus is permanently linked.
