La chimie de l'ingénierie est enseignée comme une matière obligatoire aux étudiants de premier cycle de première année de toutes les branches de l'ingénierie. La portée du sujet est très large et écrire un livre pour les étudiants d'horizons variés à travers le pays était une tâche difficile. Les besoins variés des étudiants nous ont incités à intégrer une combinaison de sujets traditionnels et les dernières tendances dans le sujet qui incluent des domaines émergents tels que l'eau et son traitement, les alliages, les carburants, les batteries et la nanochimie. Ce livre a été organisé pour répondre aux exigences des programmes de presque toutes les universités indiennes. Le but de ce texte est de permettre à l'élève de développer des capacités d'auto-apprentissage et de compréhension. Il s'agit d'un livre orienté étudiant et notre expérience pédagogique, qui s'étend sur plus de deux décennies, nous a donné un aperçu de l'état mental des élèves à ce niveau et des problèmes auxquels ils sont confrontés lors de l'étude du sujet. Deux faits importants ont été gardés à l'esprit : premièrement, les élèves qui lisent ce texte font leurs premiers pas dans le monde de l'enseignement technique et deuxièmement, que l'anglais est une deuxième langue pour la plupart de ces étudiants.
