Synopsis

Any country obsessed with fuel efficiency and petrol vehicles is no match to diesel engines. While Electric and hybrid vehicles do act as a credible replacement option for diesel engines, the reality is they won’t replace it anytime soon. This leaves consumers with no choice but to prefer a diesel car over the other options. And diesel engines are notorious for the emissions they emit while combustion and cause damage to health and the environment. This calls for the urgency of action on emissions of diesel engine till the other viable options become better. Another major problem is the shortage of conventional fuels, especially diesel. In the present work B20Neem biodiesel (20%Neem biodiesel and 80%diesel) added with cerium oxide (25ppm) is used to carry out experimentation. Brake thermal efficiency of B20Neem Cerium oxide 25 was increased by 2.7% and 5.7% than B20Neem and diesel respectively. Peak pressure and heat release rate of B20Neem Cerium oxide 25 was observed to be higher than that of B20Neem and diesel. There were appreciable improvements in Carbon monoxide and Unburnt Hydro Carbon emissions; however, there was a marginal increase in Nitrogen Oxide emission.
