Electrosurgery (ES) is a popular and growing trend of practice in surgical procedures that involves in using well-regulated constant output power in order to invoke heating in the tissue and perform various surgical effects. This project proposes a revolutionary new approach that has two facets of monitoring and control. In order to prevent thermal damage from occurring an accurate thermal monitoring system is proposed that uses both a thermocouple and an Infrared (IR) Camera in order to monitor the temperature and the thermal spread of the ES equipment. The thermal monitoring technique with the use of the IR camera also reported reduced thermal spread and prevented thermal damage. On the electronics side, the Voltage/Current output was closer to the ideal scenario, and the waveforms were following the simulated expected path, leading to the conclusion that the proposed approach is feasible and effective. In order to verify the tests even further, the experiment was performed several times using different scenarios on the same tissue type, and it reinforced that both the monitoring and the control aspects were in the same vein, leading to consistent and accurate results being portrayed.
