The objective of the book is to compute the free space capacitance of the spacecraft surfaces for predicting the charging effects. As, the spacecraft surfaces are enclosed with conductive materials, every surface material has different capacitances with respect to infinity. Due to differences in the charge of the capacitance for every surface, the profile of the time dependent potential is different for every surface. This generates the arcing which happens due to differential charging between the surfaces. The FEM is purely theoretical investigation for calculating the free space capacitance and time dependent charging potential. This book presents a method for electromagnetic analysis of different metallic plates like parallel elliptical plates, parallel circular plates and parallel square plates. The charge distribution on the conductor is found by solving differential equation by applying the finite element method.
