Synopsis

Motor vehicles worldwide play a key role within the environmental context, as their emissions are harmful to human health and well-being. The problem of air pollution from motor vehicles is not restricted to conventional pollutants that are emitted in large quantities. According to Marklund and others, Polychlorinated dibenzo-para-dioxin (PCDD) and Polychlorinated dibenzo-furan (PCDF) emissions have been identified in experiments in motor vehicle exhausts using gasoline and diesel. Knowing the total emission of a given region and the participation of the various sources in this total is of great importance in determining the risk to which people and other receptors are exposed and in establishing public policies to control these pollutants.
