Synopsis
Gradual intrusion of commercialism into the realm of medicine replacing the trust based, bilaterally rewarding patient-doctor relationship with irreconcilable business ethics of cost and benefit is the main reason behind progressive deterioration of professionalism in this sacred profession. This has resulted in loss of faith in professionals and the profession alike and is a major contemporary threat in the field of healthcare. This situation calls for immediate and planned resuscitative measures to revive professionalism among healthcare professionals. This book presents qualitative research based analysis of the perspectives of healthcare practitioners particularly the dual job holders which are the key elements in the field and can play a vital role in reviving professionalism. Dual jobs with its complex role in the face of deteriorating professionalism and role of medical education in its prophetly sense are discussed. Mechanisms of sustenance, self-accountability and self-regulation with their impact on professionalism are presented in the light of guidance from the divine book- Al Quraan.
