The idea of engaged governance has been gaining enormous popularity in recent times, both in academic discourse and actual practice, all over the world. Engaged governance coupled with the use of technology, has the potential to transform government, making it more transparent, accountable, accessible and participative. Digital technology, further, can empower the people. The Digital India initiative seeks to lay emphasis on e-governance and transform India into a digitally empowered society. The vision of Digital India for building technology such as ‘cloud computing, mobility and analytics’ in the country and providing public services to 1.3 billion people requires more assertive role of Public as well private sector. In new public management era, the size of the government and administration is squeezing but the administration is committed to pour down the benefits of its programmes and services to the citizens through the application of technology. The success of the programme, however, depends upon proper regulation and execution, empowerment of citizens, enhancement of digital literacy and skill development, removing digital divide, ensuring cyber security and privacy etc.
