Geological and Geotechnical challenges are very demanding when planning hydraulic structures. Hydropower, water supply, and irrigation projects require a detailed geotechnical investigation as a basis for the design. In hydraulic structure engineering numerical analysis, because of the nonlinearity relationship of stress and strain of soil mass, the complexity of load and boundary conditions, it is very difficult to solve the problem by analytical method. Usually, a numerical method is needed to solve the problem. ABAQUS is a powerful general finite element software, which contains abundant material models, element modes, loads and boundary conditions. It can solve many problems, such as static and dynamic problems, especially in solving nonlinear problems. It has good applicability to hydraulic structure engineering. To achieve better results in hydraulic structure engineering numerical analysis, users are to be familiar with the functions and characteristics of the analysis software, and the other is to master the relevant mathematical and mechanical theories. The relationship between the two is fully considered in this book.
