The dative structures are usually formed by two verbal complements, called direct object (OD) and indirect object (OI) and are basically composed of two groups: double-object dative forms (DDO) and prepositional dative forms (DatP). Based on this theoretical survey, the use and production of native forms in written productions of English as a Foreign Language (ESL) learners were analyzed, as well as the perceptions of ESL teachers regarding the use and production of these forms by them and their students, as well as the teaching of these structures. The focus of this work is mainly on the DDO forms, which presents the linguistic phenomenon called dative alternation which, besides causing syntactic and semantic transformations in the bottle structure, are very productive forms in the input provided by native English speakers. By observing the production of DDO and DatP argumentative structures by the learners, it was possible to establish a parallel of this production with the perceptions of the teachers.
