In the Indian context agriculture has a great historical and cultural recognition that found mention in the Vedic literature. Agriculture which has been the key sector for Indian economy and rural prosperity is going under serious threats now a days in terms of dwindling land and water resources, raising the cost of cultivation, indebtedness, depleting nutrients base and production capacity of soils, ecological degradation and climate change. In order to face the emerging challenges, there is need to develop synergistic and coherent strategies for crop productivity providing livelihood options to the rural masses. Integrated nutrient management strategies can help in reducing demand for food and improve socio-economic of rural people and it also mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, improves in soil fertility, biodiversity conservation and many other benefits.
