The novel Youth and Age is about the struggles and challenges of the youth living in postmodern society. The main characters of the novel, Nancy and Susie, Ginni and Putcha are confronted with the new challenges of reality and experienced depression and frustration. They are compelled to take pills and tables to enjoy a temporary relief from the tensions and anxieties of life. Susie is a young girl studying in Paris; she gets involved in love relationship with a young British boy Perry who impregnates her. She has to suffer acute mental agony; she decides to go to her friend Annie’s house. Annie’s mother Mrs. Toni helps her and she gives birth to a handsome Toni who is after Perry. The second part of the novel deals with the challenges of Matthew and Kanitz. Matthew is mentally disturbed because his wife deserted her and rushed to Haifa. The sensational love affair of the young boy and a middle aged Kanitz excites the interest of the readers. The ending of the novel is touching and heart rending.
