La nécessité d'un processus de démulsification efficace pour traiter les émulsions dans l'industrie pétrolière est bien reconnue. Depuis des décennies, de nombreuses recherches ont été menées pour examiner les mécanismes d'émulsification et de démulsification. L'émulsion non traitée a des implications techniques et commerciales dans l'industrie, notamment en termes d'installations de traitement, de raffinage et de transport. Le travail étudié comprenait l'application de dix démulsifiants commerciaux à différentes températures, concentration de démulsifiant. Différents produits chimiques démulsifiants testés dans différents fabricants. Les résultats obtenus avec le démulsifiant commercial pour le pétrole brut Halfaya à 70oC et 90oC avec des doses différentes (25, 35, 40, 50, 100, 150 et 200 ppm). Il est clair que l'approche de démulsification la plus efficace est celle qui permet d'atteindre l'efficacité de séparation souhaitable tout en respectant les réglementations environnementales et en imposant le moins de charge économique à l'industrie pétrolière.
