Today, radiography is widely recognized as an important part of dental care. Radiographs are two-dimensional representations of the three dimensional objects. Conventional intra oral radiographic techniques such as periapical bitewing have been the backbone of dentistry so far. But because of their disadvantages, like patient exposure, extended chair side time, less image accuracy, the trend has turned towards digital imaging. Radiographs are seen to be an important diagnostic aid in every branch of dentistry. They are used to find the prognosis of treatment, information’s regarding pre-operative and post-operative stage of the pathology with accuracy. Radiology includes not only the above said examination techniques, but also the human visual system which uses the higher cognitive processes, and thereby results in an accurate diagnosis which is the basic requirement of an effective treatment. Computer assisted instructions can be expected to become an increasing element of focus in future dental education. The advantage is that it allows a rapid built- in response, superior clinical performance and learning efficiency. Computer based decision support also has a potential role
