Research on TURP in large size (>70gms) Prostates have been shown beneficial as compared to open surgeries in terms of safety and efficacy. It is minimal invasive surgery and has shown effective results in terms of complications, hospital stay and various other parameters when compared to open surgery. TURP has been gold standard for decades till now. TURP has decreased morbidity which earlier was seen in open surgeries. Although newer techniques have evolved but none has replaced TURP.
