This paper focuses on the training of engineers for the railway industry in Great Britain. It describes the systems of accreditation of educational programs and the bodies that supervise the compliance of programs with these systems. Based on the analysis of a wide range of primary sources the author describes the stages of certification of professional engineers and highlights the main international agreements governing the mutual recognition of engineering qualifications and professional competencies.
