Synopsis

The analysis of rainfall is proposed over a period of 46 years. This study, which is based on data collected at three meteorological stations, namely Gisenyi, Kamembe in Rwanda and Lwiro in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has made it possible to calculate a certain number of indices, in particular the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), the Rainfall Deficit Index (IDP), the Rainfall Index (IP) and the Drought Index (SI). These indices revealed the extreme variability of rainfall in the Lake Kivu basin. They also show the character of the number of annual droughts as well as the rainy periods during this period.
