Synopsis

Aluminium alloys, due to their light weight, stiffness, anti-corrosion, and workability properties, find application in the fabrication of a wide range of components used in industries and daily life. This research work investigates the design, development, and fabrication of AA7075-Marble dust (0-6 wt.% @ 2wt.%) alloy composites using the stir casting method. Subsequently, samples are characterized for their physical (density & voids content), mechanical (hardness, compressive strength, impact strength, and flexural strength), and dry sliding wear (on a pin on disc) performance. It has been observed that voids content increases with reinforcement content. The hardness, impact, and flexural strength of 6 wt.% reinforcement was the highest while the 2 wt.% reinforcement showed the highest compressive strength. The specific wear rate decreases with the reinforcement content and sliding velocity, whereas it increases with normal load and sliding distance.
