Synopsis

The insect is considered as a pest mainly based on the damage or loss it causes to the crop. Depending upon this, the plant protection measures have to be tailored for getting higher economic returns. So assessment of crop loss due to insect pest becomes essential for any planned crop protection programme against a particular pest in a particular crop. Differential number of leaf webber and capsule borer (Antigastra catalaunalis) larvae starting from 0.00 to 6 per plant was artificially released on to caged plants for calculating economic injury level of Antigastra catalaunalis. The Antigastra catalaunalis density had a significant effect on per cent damaged capsules per plant. A maximum of 98.29 per cent yield loss was recorded when the 6 larvae per plant was released, minimum capsule damage seen in insecticidal spray treatment (5.55%) and no any damaged leaf, flower and capsule was seen in treatment where no larvae was released.
