Energy demand and depletion of fossil fuels explored the evitable source of alternative liquid fuels including biodiesel, bio-ethanol, bio-oil, plastic oil, etc. Among all these alternate fuels, the plastic oil obtained by the thermal degradation of waste plastics resembles more closely the composition and properties of petro fuels like petrol, diesel, and kerosene. Besides, this caters to the recycling of a huge volume of heterogeneous plastic waste. So, in this study, the oil produced from the thermo-catalytic pyrolysis of medical plastic wastes is proposed as an appropriate alternative fuel to be operated in a compression ignition (CI) engine, and efforts are made to improve the engine performance and emission. The performance of the 20% WPO–diesel blend is found appreciable as compared to other blends, to be utilized as an alternative fuel for a diesel engine. However, such a fuel blend produces higher heat losses and excess CO, HC, and NOx emissions as compared to diesel. To achieve better results, oxygenated additives with the mixture of waste plastic oil diesel, in different proportions, were used in an engine with different compression ratios.
