Osteoarthritis is one of the most common degenerative diseases. The causes of primary osteoarthritis are still unclear. Researchers believe that these causes are multifactorial, involving various pathogenic factors. One factor could be the presence of visceral dysfunction, particularly in the sigmoid colon and cecum. These sections of the large intestine are connected to the hip joint and the lower extremities via various levels and can therefore influence them. To date, there has been little discussion of such relationships in the literature. This study examines the question of which osteopathic findings can be found in visceral structures in hip arthrosis patients and how frequently and to what extent they occur. This study is a pilot study of a purely descriptive nature. Twenty-seven study participants who suffer from osteoarthritis of the hip joint and who have already undergone hip replacement surgery on one side underwent a standardized manual examination.
