Synopsis

Urbanisation is the process of converting a rural area into an area focused on the economy, goods and services. This process is achieved through deforestation to create impermeable areas, promoting changes in the hydrological cycle and water resources, reducing water infiltration into the soil, increasing surface runoff and, consequently, increasing the likelihood of floods and flooding. Urban drainage is a relevant issue for society and has been the subject of constant questioning, such as the lack of micro-drainage projects and legislation. Actions related to this issue are either non-existent or not conditioned to reality, due to a lack of knowledge of legal requirements, poor design of hydraulic systems, and misuse of urban watershed land, generating losses, risks, and damage to riverside populations.
