Synopsis

The Andean Community of Nations (CAN) is a regional integration organization created in 1969 through the Cartagena Agreement, with the objective of promoting the economic, social and political development of its member countries through cooperation and integration. Currently, the CAN is made up of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Among its main goals are the free movement of goods, services, capital and people, the strengthening of trade among member countries and the adoption of common policies in areas such as transportation, environment, education and migration. The CAN has led to important advances such as the elimination of internal tariffs, the Andean migration card, common rules for trade and the protection of Andean citizens' rights. Despite facing political and economic challenges, it remains a key space for regional integration in South America.
