Etat : Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book investigates the thermodynamic behavior, emission characteristics, and performance optimization of hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engines (H¿-ICEs) through numerical modeling, with a particular focus on two key engineering challenges: nitrogen oxide (NO¿) emission control and combustion efficiency under varying operating conditions. The first chapter addresses the problem of NO¿ formation in a direct-injection spark-ignition hydrogen engine. Under baseline operating conditions-1500 rpm, naturally aspirated intake at 1 bar, excess-air ratio ¿ = 4, and direct hydrogen injection at 100 bar-a zero-dimensional single-zone thermodynamic model, developed and validated in the OpenModelica environment, predicts a peak in-cylinder temperature of 950°C at top dead center and cumulative NO¿ emissions of 1.33 g/kWh. This value exceeds by a factor of 3.3 the 0.4 g/kWh ceiling imposed by the Euro VI standard. The model, whose peak pressure prediction of 23 bar agrees closely with the experimental reference value of 23.33 bar from Sandia National Laboratories as well as with independent CFD results, is subsequently used to evaluate the effect of direct water injection over a range.
