Synopsis

The quantification of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) has been the subject of several studies aimed at integrating it into routine practice, particularly in establishing the prognosis for this cancer. The objectives of our study were to clarify the prognostic impact of Tils in stage II and stage III colon cancer. Our retrospective, analytical, and prognostic study included 60 patients with localized colon cancer. TIL density was low in 30 cases (50%) and high in 30 cases (50%). Intraepithelial TILs were present in 22 cases (37%). Overall survival was better in the group of patients with high TIL density compared to the group with low density (p<0.001). In the group of patients with intraepithelial TILs, both overall survival and relapse-free survival were better. In multivariate analysis, only the density of intrastromal TILs was associated with overall survival. The density of intrastromal TILs and the presence of intraepithelial TILs were associated with relapse-free survival.
