Synopsis

During childhood, children must master various developmental tasks. One of the most important of these is the development of social competence. This is a lengthy and complex developmental process characterised by the acquisition of individual skills. Emotional competence is an essential component of social competence. One aspect of emotional competence is emotional understanding, which is the focus of this study. This refers to the ability to recognise and understand emotions. It thus has a significant influence on general social development and determines the quality of social relationships. Deficits in this area manifest as behavioural problems and are clinically relevant. For this reason, the focus is on improving these competences and skills through regular training, both in healthy children and in those with developmental deficits. To this end, a computer game for children has been developed which is designed to support every child's development in a playful manner and within a non-clinical context, whether the focus is on correcting deficits or achieving improvements.
