Professor Li Deyin taught Taijiquan at Beijing's Renmin (People's) University for 40 years. He has been named one of the Top 100 Chinese Martial Arts Masters and has reached the eighth grade in Chinese martial arts. He is both a qualified judge of martial arts at international level and a renowned national-level community physical-education instructor. Born into a traditional martial arts family in 1938, Professor Li started his martial-arts training at the age of eight. After graduation from Renmin University in 1961, he was invited to stay on and teach at the university. To promote Taijiquan comprehensively, he studied the Chen and Wu styles to complement the Yang and Sun styles passed down by his family. In 1989, with the support of the Chinese Wushu Association, he created the 42-Step Taijiquan competitive routine. In addition to teaching Taijiquan and being involved in community activities related to martial arts in China and abroad, he has written or produced many educational books, videos and DVDs on Taijiquan. In 2001, to demonstrate his support for Beijing's bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games, Professor Li created the Taiji Kung Fu Fan routine, which has become highly popular and widely practiced.

It is practised both as a competitive sport and as an exercise to strengthen the mind and body. Tàijíquán is an easy-to-use, fully-illustrated guide to the historical background, practical application, underlying principles and techniques of Tàijíquán. Written by one of China's most prominent teachers of Tàijíquán, this book is an excellent introduction to a martial art that improves balance, coordination, flexibility, muscle strength and cardiovascular health. Tàijíquán describes five forms in which Tàijíquán is practised today: the 81-Step Tàijíquán, the Simplified 24-Step Tàijíquán, the Competition 42-Step Tàijíquán, the Competition 42-Step Tàijí Sword, and the 32-Step Tàijí Sword. Each form is explained with instructive photographs, a numerical reference system for each exercise, and a DVD is also included, making it an excellent resource for students of martial arts, experienced practitioners or anyone interested in learning about Tàijíquán.
