Synopsis
《变形记》全诗的结构可以细分为以下各个段落：序诗、引子（天地的开创、四大时代、洪水的传说）、神的故事（卷一至卷六）、男女英雄的故事（卷六至卷十一）、"历史"人物的事迹（卷十一至卷十五）、尾声。这样一个安排多少是按时间次序作出，但是有许多故事的发生时间本来很难定，因此作者又按故事的性质予以安排，例如卷一至二的故事主要围绕神的恋爱为中心，卷三、四是以酒神巴克科斯和忒拜城为中心，卷五、六以神的复仇为中心，卷六至九以雅典英雄为中心，卷九至十一以男女英雄的恋爱为中心等。例如卷一至二的故事主要围绕神的恋爱为中心，卷三、四是以酒神巴克科斯和忒拜城为中心，卷五、六以神的复仇为中心，卷六至九以雅典英雄为中心，卷九至十一以男女英雄的恋爱为中心等。
《诗艺》原是一封诗体信简，无题，发表后不及百年，即被罗马修辞学、演说学家昆提利阿努斯（Quintillianus，约公元35-95）称之为《诗艺》（ArsPoetica），其后遂以此名著称。受信人是皮索氏（Piso）父子三人。当时皮索氏甚多，不知确指何人，根据此信内容，三分之一谈戏剧，三人中可能有人想写剧本，求教于贺拉斯，贺拉斯作此复函，信笔所之，谈谈写作的体会。
