作家与编辑，这是一个交叉的学科；作家型编辑家研究，这是一个跨越创作、出版、新闻、学术几大领域的方向。在中国现代文学史上有许多作家，人们往往更多的是研究他们的创作成就、创作思想与创作特色，而很少关注他们于创作之外的编辑活动，更罕有研究他们所创办主编的报刊，以及这些报刊对当时社会运动与文学创作的影响。《学术之星文库：中国现代作家型编辑家研究》以他们的编辑为切入点，选取中国现代文学史上比较有代表性的十二个作家：陈独秀、鲁迅、李大钊、郭沫若、郁达夫、徐志摩、闻一多、朱自清、瞿秋白、夏衍、丁玲、巴金，在广搜史料的基础上，纵述他们编辑活动的历程，揭示他们的编辑思想与编辑特色，探论他们编辑报刊的宗旨与主张，总结他们丰富的编辑经验，从而为人们更全面地去认识作家；并从另一侧面对作为作家型的编辑家进行深入研究。
