Synopsis

Introductiory Chinese is a series of Chinese teaching textbooks, which is comprised of six titles: Listening and Speaking(volume I and II), Reading Comprehension, Chinese Character Workbook, Listening Comprehension and Listening Comprehension Workbook. Listening and Speaking explains the essential vocabulary and language points and focuses on improving students' speaking abilities through the use of everyday situational dialogues. It contains two volumes, within which there are 44 lessons altogether. The lessons include nearly 70 grammatical items and 1200 new words and will require approximately 400 class hours to complete. Together, Introductory Chinese and An Elementary Course in Scientific Chinese form a set. Those who come to China to study science and engineering should begin with the former and then proceed to the latter.
