Synopsis

From the perspective of rationality, this book has a thorough analysis of social philosophys basic questions, especially knowledges phenomenological questions and knowledge phenomena in social philosophy. Scheler regards knowledge sociology as part of culture sociology, and calls fields of idea, value, and knowledge as concept elements, and reality of nature and society as reality elements. These elements have their development process in history, the so-called law of three phases. In the primary phase, blood and family relationship is the most important; the next phase comes political power; and last the economic elements. Scheler also thinks that collective knowledge precedes individual knowledge whose production must be built upon the former one, without which individual knowledge cannot be expresses. In modern time when knowledge and information accumulates fast, Schelers knowledge sociology draws wide attention and has great influence upon the Chinese and foreign philosophy.
