Synopsis
Never has there been a writer as good as Hal Clement at creating weird alien environments, and the prognosticating the type of life forms which could thrive in those environments. The fantastic aliens from *Mission of Gravity* make another appearance here. This time humanity wants to explore a planet with "only" 40 x Earth gravity. Not wanting to depend entirely on robotics, they hire a crew of Mesklinites to cross space and do the actual exploratory work. But these sharp traders flimflammed humanity once before, and are looking to do it again! This is the original appearance, as a four-part serial in *Analog SF*, June through September, 1970
