The favourable notice that was taken of them at the time by the leading journals of India has encouraged me to collect and present them to the public in a handy form. The author has attempted briefly in this work to deal with some of the subjects in which the ancient Hindus attained a high digree of excellence and to trace some of the causes of their decline.
