Synopsis
This book deals with the technology of making, shaping and treating of cast irons which are produced in the largest tonnage as the ferrous casting material both in India and abroad. The book has been prepared in two parts and consists of a total of fifteen chapters. The first part of the book has eight chapters dealing with classification of cast irons, melting practice, metallurgy, production technology, characterization and applications of entire family of cast irons. The second part of the book consists of seven chapters dealing with special cast irons, selection of cast irons for different applications, defects of iron castings and their remedies, welding of cast irons, inspection and testing as well as design of iron castings and Indian practice of cast iron technology.1 cast irons-concepts, terminology and classification. 2 melting of cast irons. 3 modern developments in cupola melting practice. 4 gray cast irons and foundry practice. 5 white and malleable irons and foundry practice. 6 spheroidal graphite cast irons and foundry practice. 7 compacted (vermicular) graphite irons and foundry practice. 8 high-duty (high-strength)cast irons.

À propos de l?auteur
S N Tiwari graduated in Metallurgical Engineering in 1964 from Banaras Hindu University He obtained M Sc (Met Engg) and Ph D degrees from the same university He took over as the Head of Department of Metallurgical Engineering and later on as Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology I T B H U in 1989 and 2005 respectively Presently he is the Director of Moradabad Institute of Technology. Dr. Tiwari visited University of Sheffield under Indo-British University Collaboration Programme and University of Mauritius under Indian Economic and Technical Cooperation Programme of Government of India. He has a vast experience of teaching and research of some four decades in the general area of Metal Casting Technology He has supervised a large number of M.Tech. dissertations and Ph.D. theses and has nearly 150 research publications to his credit.
