Biographie de l'auteur

Niccolo Machiavelli--political philosopher, historian, writer, statesman and diplomat-- was born in Florence on 3 May 1469, in Florence, Italy. As secretary of a council that held diplomatic negotiations in the state, his assignments took him to the French king, the Holy Sea and the German Emperor, places where he studied political tactics. He was suspected as a conspirator involved in the downfall of Gonfaloniere Soderini and was arrested and later tortured. Released from prison, he was forced to retire from public life. This is when he wrote The Prince. He died of ill-health in June 1527
