The study of Indian Diaspora has become an established field of research and study during the last two and a half decades. This volume consists of contributions of the social scientists from various corners of the world and offers analysis of the Indian diaspora from various perspectives. The history of international migration of the Indians dates back to the late nineteenth century and there has been an unbroken change in their migration. From indentured labour to voluntary migration, the Indians have come a long way in establishing themselves as immigrant communities characterised by their distinct social formations, both similar and different from the native society, by continuing their identifiable Indian identity in terms of names, sometimes caste and invariably religion. Studies of Indian Diaspora included in the book take cognisance of family, society, gender, elderly and youth, religion as the journey of people belonging to different parts of India with special focus on Punjabis from their traditional milieu and their engagement with the western modernity.
