M. Krishnan (1912–1996) was one of India’s most respected naturalists, essayists, and authors, often described as the “father of modern nature writing in India.” He combined scientific observation with literary flair, producing essays, columns, and books that brought Indian wildlife and landscapes vividly to life.

Ashish Chandola is an Indian naturalist, wildlife photographer, and editor, best known for curating collections of Indian nature writing such as Of Birds and Birdsong and The Song of the Magpie Robin. His work preserves and disseminates the legacy of pioneering naturalists like M. Krishnan and Zafar Futehally.

Shanti Chandola is an Indian editor and author best known for her work in wildlife and nature writing, often in collaboration with her husband Ashish Chandola. Together, they have curated anthologies that preserve the legacy of pioneering Indian naturalists like M. Krishnan and ornithologist Zafar Futehally.

T.N.A. Perumal (1936–2018) was one of India’s most celebrated wildlife photographers and authors, often described as a pioneer of Indian nature photography. His books and essays combine technical mastery with deep ecological sensitivity, making him a central figure in documenting India’s biodiversity.
