The Colloquium is different from other human rights courses because it combines capacity-building through lectures and readings, with peer learning through the exchange of experiences among participants, speakers and organizers. In its seven years of existence, the Colloquium became a crucial forum in which organizations from the South can think about their common challenges and create new strategies for collaboration. Furthermore the jurisprudence of international and regional human rights bodies and the decisions of courts throughout the Commonwealth shoul be disseminated to judges, lawyers and public officials. In these ways a global culture of respect for human rights can be fostered. It is in this context that South Asian charter of human rights, similar to regional human rights conventions elsewhere, would make a significant contribution to the protection of human rights throughout South Asia.
