The Colloquium is different from other human rights courses because it combines capacity-building through lectures and readings, with peer learning through the exchange of experiences among participants, speakers and organizers. In these ways a global culture of respect for human rights can be fostered. It is in this context that South Asian charter of human rights, similar to regional human rights conventions elsewhere, would make a significant contribution to the protection of human rights throughout South Asia.
