Gerhard Endress is a distinguished German scholar of Arabic and Islamic Studies and Emeritus Professor at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences of North Rhine-Westphalia. His scholarship focuses particularly on the intellectual history of medieval Islam, Arabic literature and philology, and the transmission of Greek philosophy and science into the Arabic-Islamic world.

Endress is widely recognized for his contributions to the study of Arabic philosophy, medieval Islamic intellectual history, and Graeco-Arabic scholarship. He has published and edited works dealing with the transmission of Greek philosophical and scientific texts into Arabic, as well as broader studies of Islamic history and culture.
