First published in 1924, Wit and Wisdom of India is a collection of 75 humourous stories chosen from Indian folk literature. These are rather unsophisticated stories which have retained the flavour of the taste of the common folk. Like many folk stories all over, these are likely to have their versions in other regions and in other languages. What is remarkable is that they have survived through the passage of time and are still highly enjoyable., About The Author:- Pandit Shyama Shankar obtained his M.A. degree from the University of London. He was a Research Scholar at the University College, London, and was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple. For a long time he was the Diwan of Jhalawar, a princely state in Rajputana. His children include Uday Shankar, the illustrious musician. Introduction by Dr. Sila Basak, Ph.D., D.Lit., FRAS (London). Born in Kolkata, India, 1947. Working as an academic attached to the Department of Folkore and Languages studies with various University.
